Shattered Innocence: The Weight of the East
This piece is an evocative painting. The title reflects the imagination of a little girl, the scribbles symbolize the mental burden on this girl as well as her tangled emotions. There is also a heavy atmosphere surrounding her which would symbolize the heaviness of her trauma. This piece is close to my heart because it symbolizes the challenges faced, by not only women, but also children in the eastern area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). I wanted this piece to kind of help with awareness when it comes to what is happening there, where conflicts, displacement, and hardship with heavily on the events of innocence and hope for people.
P.S: Just researching for this project brought me to tears and I hope I did an OK job at illuminating and reflecting those feelings.
In my artwork, I love to celebrate Black girlhood, womanhood, and motherhood, using themes like feminism to show the strength and beauty of being a woman. I’m drawn to bright colors that make my pieces pop, but I also appreciate the simple, textured feel of charcoal. Sometimes, I like to weave in elements from my African heritage, adding cultural symbols and designs that are close to my heart. Whether I’m capturing the joy (or struggle) of being a girl or the grace of motherhood, my art reflects the powerful journey of Black women.

Standard Shipping: 3 - 8 business days, with an

Technology & Inks
For canvas and poster prints, we use high-end inkjet Canon
iPF9400 printers with Canon 12-color Aqueous inks. Acid-free archival inks are
used to print on cotton rags, which have a 400gsm standard, natural white
color, matte finish, and ultra-smooth texture.
Quality Control
We ensure premium quality for all our canvas and poster
prints. Our in-house UV test chamber allows us to continually test materials,
guaranteeing that colors will stand the test of time and last as long—or
longer—than any other canvas or poster prints available.
Packaging Control
For canvas and poster prints, we carefully pack each canvas
in a protective sleeve, which is then secured in a fold-over cardboard box
fitted to the canvas dimensions. Straps are added to the exterior of the box
for additional security during transit.
